pkgsrc.se originally developed by Fredrik and Viktor from netbsd.se. On 2023-01-30 and after 20 years providing pkgsrc.se and other services they decided it was time to say goodbye. Because it's such an awesome services it was not possible for the NetBSD and pkgsrc community to live without it - so the service will continue from the pkgsrc.pub community.
pkgsrc is a framework for managing third-party software on UNIX-like systems, currently containing over 26,000 packages. It is the default package manager of NetBSD and SmartOS, and can be used to enable freely available software to be built easily on a large number of other UNIX-like platforms. The binary packages that are produced by pkgsrc can be used without having to compile anything from source. It can be easily used to complement the software on an existing system.
Pkgsrc by the web, pkgsrc.se, is intended to be an easy navigated frontend to the NetBSD packages collection. The project was introduced to the pkgsrc community in late 2003, and has gone through a few revisions since then.
Only CURRENT and the latest stable branch is updated. The CURRENT branch is updated several times a day while the stable branch is updated once a day.
pkgsrc.se does also include the packages in pkgsrc-wip:"pkgsrc-wip (work in progress) is a project to get more people actively involved with creating packages for pkgsrc, a portable packaging system coming from NetBSD, but ported to many other operating systems, including Solaris, Linux, Darwin, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and others."
