[Bug] 1924: (also 2007) Overhaul behavior and testing re: merging together \ 
different sources for the key_filename parameter in Connection.connect_kwargs. \ 
This fixes a number of type-related errors (string objects have no extend \ 
attribute, cannot add lists to strings, etc).
